Rock the Garden at the South Coast Botanic Garden
Get your body moving and grooving with our musical garden installation! A selection of trails will host a special “mix-tape” to mix up your post-holiday walk. After you’ve experienced our woodland dance party, follow your map to create and listen to the sounds that nature makes at highlighted locations throughout our 87 acres.

There Will Be Food: Latin American Cuisine in LA
Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic Jonathan Gold and multi-tasking food scholar and radio host Evan Kleiman lead a far-reaching and ambitious exploration of Latin American cuisine in dialogue with Los Angeles. Joining the conversation will be Ray Garcia, chef at Broken Spanish, Carlos Salgado of Taco María, and Bricia Lopez, co-owner of L.A.’s legendary Guelaguetza.

An Evening with Rian Johnson
Before he completed the latest installment of the Star Wars saga, writer/director Rian Johnson made his name with three independent features that teemed with activity and menace. His debut film Brick, a film noir set in the halls of a high school made a star of the filmmaker. Their second collaboration was the post-apocalyptic thriller Looper, in which Levitt played a younger version of Bruce Willis. For our “An Evening With…”, Johnson selected a film that had a formative impact on him, and it’s a George Lucas film that isn’t Star Wars: 1972’s American Graffiti, which is packed with characters and events. After Graffiti plays, Johnson will explore Lucas’ influence beyond “a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…”

California Election 2018: Gubernatorial Candidates Town Hall Meeting
Six candidates vying to become the next Governor of California will face off for the first time during a town hall meeting at the University of Southern California on January 13. The event is in partnership with the Empowerment Congress and Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. It will be open to the public, as well as streamed live on the internet and broadcast live on public radio. To attend #ECSummit26, register online at http://empowermentcongress.org/.
